I've seen the videos and all the pretty pictures, but where do I start?
You have been spending hours on Instagram or Facebook, watched many videos on Brush Calligraphy and now your wondering, what do I buy to start creating my own beautiful piece of art?
So I have put together a short list of things that you would need to have in order to start.
PAPER
1. Laser Printer Paper - it does not matter which GSM it is, it does matter however how smooth the paper is. The smoother the paper, the less damaging it is to the brush pen. You can also use this paper to print all the free worksheets!
and/or
2. Rhodia Grid Paper - My preferred choice of paper for practise as it has grids to ensure my words stay the same size and it comes in a variety of sizes, which means you can pop one in your handbag and practise when you have free time (exe : school pickup or waiting for a meeting to start )
BRUSH PENS
There are 2 types of Brush Pens
a) Fine/ Small Brush Tip
b) Large Brush Tip
Fine/Small Brush Tip
1. Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen – Hard Tip / Soft Tip
This is my go to pen for everyday use! I prefer the hard tip over the soft tip as it gives me better control over the pen. It only downside is that it only comes in BLACK.
2. Pentel Sign Brush Pen
This brush pen is what I use for all my Beginners Brush Calligraphy workshops. It's easy to use and provides excellent control, and comes in a variety of COLORS!
Large Brush Tip
1. Artline Stix – Brush Pens
My favourite large brush tip pen, the colors are vibrant and, the tip is easy to control and the gradient it produces is simply drool worthy!
2. Ecoline Brush Pens
These brush pens are filled with watercolor and are so fun to work with as you can touch the two tips together and mix colors to get really pretty calligraphy.
